Knox Box System: Ensuring Emergency Access and Protecting Your Property

The North Highlands Fire Department is now utilizing Knox Box devices to provide secure and rapid access to businesses and residential properties during emergencies. This system ensures that our firefighters can enter your building or home quickly, minimizing damage and improving response times.

What is a Knox Box?

A Knox Box is a secure, tamper-proof safe that holds keys to your property, accessible only by the fire department. In our district, the primary response engine is equipped with a Knox Box safe, which remains securely locked until an emergency triggers the need for access.

How Does It Work?

In an emergency, the North Highlands Fire Department can request access to your Knox Box through the Putnam County Dispatch Center. Once the request is made, the Dispatch Center sends a unique code to unlock the safe in the fire truck, allowing our firefighters to retrieve your property key and gain entry to your building or gated area. This process is highly secure, with all access to the Knox Box safe being logged, including the date, time, and the individual who made the request.

Once the emergency is resolved, whether it was a false alarm or a genuine incident, our firefighters will re-secure your property by locking the door or gate and returning the key to the Knox Box safe in the truck.

Why Install a Knox Box?

Prevent Costly Damage: Avoid unnecessary forced entry damage, which may not be covered by your insurance.
Immediate Access: Ensure quick entry for firefighters without delay, especially when you're not on site.
Protect Your Assets: Minimize damage to your inventory, equipment, and supplies by enabling swift action in emergencies.
Comply with Local Regulations: Satisfy local fire codes and emergency access requirements.
Peace of Mind: Rest easy knowing that your property is accessible to emergency services, but remains secure, as only the fire department holds the key.
Maintain Security Post-Incident: After an investigation, your building remains secure without any damage to the entry points.
Proven Reliability: With over 25 years of use in 6,000 communities, the Knox Box system is a trusted solution for emergency access.
